The Need:

Data Cleaning in Excel is the process of identifying errors and taking proper steps to solve those errors in Excel. It includes the identification of unorganised data and organising it.

Cleaning data is often associated with imported data, as it needs to be modified before it can be used as useful content.

Do you have spreadsheets that needs data correcting before you can use it constructively? Do you spend a lot of time correcting this prior to actually working on it?

Do any of the following apply to your data?

  • Do you need to separate content from a cell into multiple cells?
  • Do you need to correct the case (upper or lower case)?
  • Are there additional spaces that need to be removed?
  • Does the data need to have duplicate entries removed?
  • Do you need to find cells that contain formulas, data validation, conditional formatting?
  • Before you can start on your work, do you need to carry out basic formatting? (format a column as Date? change the header row, remove or move columns, etc.)
